RAEL Fire Protection is a fourth-generation full-service fire protection company that has been providing uninterrupted design, installation, inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair services for over 90 years. Our History

Late 1920s, early 1930s

RAEL founder, Charlie Israel moves to NYC from Schenectady, NY seeking opportunity. Charlie began his career as a plumber, and notices a gap in the industry in regards to fire protection.

1933

RAEL is issued its first license to install fire protection. Rael’s original offices were in Whitestone, Bronx. At this point in time new construction did not require fire protection, so initially RAEL was sprinklering only rooming houses and single room occupancies. This was the same year Norman Israel was born.

1970s

Charlie Israel retires and the company transitions to Norman Israel.

1980s

Following two terribly tragic fires (November 21, 1980 87 people were killed in the MGM Grand Fire in Las Vegas and on February 10, 1981 least five people were killed in a fire at the Las Vegas Hilton) a major reformation of fire safety guidelines and codes. After this legislation was passed mandating fire protection in hotels and office buildings, RAEL began working on these type of projects.

1983

900 3rd Ave is the first building built in NYC with a combination sprinkler standpipe system. Norman Israel was a key to implementing this, setting the standard on how fire protection is designed and installed to this day.

1990s

RAEL flourishes in the construction of large commercial buildings in Manhattan; notably the Waldorf Astoria, NY Hilton, 270 Park, Grand Hyatt, Palace Hotel, Helmsley Building, 450 Lexington, Worldwide Plaza, Hearst Tower, NY Family Hospital, and 101 Park Ave.

2000s

David Israel alongside Norman together began sprinklering even more significant buildings including AOL Time Warner, at the time one of the largest construction projects ever to occur in NYC.

Today

Today RAEL has completed over 5000 construction jobs including the Freedom Tower, MSG, Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Hudson Yards, One Vanderbilt, LGA Terminal B and the new Delta Terminal.
